Links

These links are a selection from my favourite art/artist sites. I’ve got a lot more but I have to set a limit somewhere! I’ve also included some artists that I think are great but have little or no web presence. Links are listed in alphabetical order by first name, and open in a new tab. Most sites are family friendly but not all. With some of the artists, I’ve only seen their work online; things can change in print.

VARIETY SITES – Regularly updated sites with works by different artists:

3D Total: Lots of 3D and 2D digital art, with some good tutorials.

CGHub: Big digital art community, both 2D and 3D.

CGSociety: Heaps of 2D and 3D digital art. Big contests, useful forums, good articles.

Comic Art Community: USA superhero art isn’t my thing, but there are exceptions!

ComicArtFans: Original comic art. Can be the best place to find art by certain artists.

ConceptArt.Org: Lots more digital art, with a 2D focus. Again, useful forums.

Concept Artist Link Collection:  Collection of concept artist links. Or maybe a turtle.

Concept Art World: Selective collection of high-quality concept art.

Concept Ships: Concept art of spacecraft by various contributors.

Conga: Various artists, mostly commercial in style, chosen by Robogabo.

DeviantART: Heaps in various media. Have to hunt for the good art, but plenty there.

Drawn: Illustrators, cartoonists and animators, often with unique and quirky styles.

Lambiek: Huge list of comic artists, usually with a couple of pictures per artist.

Lines and Colors: Artists from various fields and periods. Some good choices.

Tor.com Animation: Collection of short films in various styles. Not intended for kids.

BUYING BOOKS & COMICS:

Parka Blogs: Useful reviews of ‘entertainment art’ books (eg. movies, games, anime).

Betterworldbooks: Huge range, used & new. Great shipping rates for individual items.

Amazon: Massive range. Cheap when combining shipping. Customer recommendations.

MyComicShop: Masses of comics/graphic novels. Cheap when combining shipping at Ebay.

Notes: It’s probably good to buy from local shops if you can. If you buy via a Parka link,
Parka gets a commission (which is good). Betterworldbooks’ packaging is adequate but
not superb. Amazon has handy book recommendation tools such as “Listmania”.
